Raghav Chadha Becomes Blinkit Rider for a Day, Sparks Debate on Gig Workers’ Rights
Raghav Chadha, AAP MP, spent a day as a Blinkit delivery rider to spotlight the hardships of gig workers. His video and earlier posts on low pay and long hours reignited debate on wages, job security, and social protections in India’s gig economy.
AAP MP Raghav Chadha has once again brought attention to the challenges faced by India’s gig economy by spending a day as a delivery executive with quick‑commerce platform Blinkit.
In a video shared on his social media, Chadha is seen trading his formal attire for Blinkit’s signature yellow uniform and delivery backpack. Accompanied by a delivery partner, he navigates housing complexes, elevators, and corridors while completing doorstep deliveries.
Sharing the clip, Chadha wrote: “Away from boardrooms, at the grassroots. I lived their day.” He hinted that the experience was part of a larger effort to highlight the struggles of gig workers, asking followers to “stay tuned” for more updates.
The short video, now widely circulated online, offers a rare glimpse of a sitting Member of Parliament stepping into the shoes of frontline delivery staff — a workforce central to India’s booming instant delivery sector, yet often criticized for low pay, long hours, and lack of social security.
Chadha’s stint follows his earlier criticism of what he described as the “exploitative realities” of gig work. Last month, he posted a screenshot showing a Blinkit rider earning ₹762.57 after 28 deliveries over nearly 15 hours — averaging just ₹52 per hour. He argued that such conditions are unsustainable, calling for minimum wage guarantees, humane working hours, and social security protections.
Days later, Chadha released another video featuring a conversation with Himanshu, the delivery agent whose earnings had sparked debate. Over a shared meal, Himanshu spoke about long hours, road risks, and the absence of safety nets, describing delivery workers as the “invisible wheels of the Indian economy.” Chadha emphasized that such voices must be heard not only on social media but also in Parliament and policymaking forums.
He has indicated that his role‑play as a delivery rider is part of a broader engagement with gig workers, with more initiatives expected soon.
