Rajesh Khanna’s timeless advice to daughter Twinkle Khanna after marrying Akshay Kumar
Twinkle Khanna, daughter of Rajesh Khanna and Dimple Kapadia, married Akshay Kumar in 2001. In a lighthearted old interview, Rajesh Khanna joked about Akshay’s films like Hera Pheri and Bhool Bhulaiyaa, calling him a man of “hera pheri.” He affectionately advised Twinkle to keep a gentle check on her husband, saying, “Tina baba, pull his reins a little, but not so tightly that they break.” The anecdote reflects Rajesh Khanna’s old-school wisdom delivered with humor and warmth.
Twinkle Khanna, daughter of legendary actors Rajesh Khanna and Dimple Kapadia, initially stepped into Bollywood following her parents’ path. However, she soon decided to quit acting and moved on to other pursuits. In 2001, she tied the knot with Akshay Kumar. The couple has now been happily married for 24 years and are parents to two children — son Aarav and daughter Nitara. Yet, there was a time when Rajesh Khanna humorously cautioned his daughter about Akshay. In an old interview, the veteran actor jokingly remarked that his son-in-law was always busy with “hera pheri,” a playful nod to Akshay’s popular films with Paresh Rawal and Suniel Shetty.
Rajesh Khanna’s humorous take on Akshay Kumar
In that interview, Rajesh Khanna said, “Iss umar mein toh hamara jo jamai raja hai vo bohot gaata hai. Kabhi vo Bhool Bhulaiyaa karta hai, kabhi Hera Pheri karta hai, Hera Pheri 2 karta hai. Bohot hera pheri karta hai. Hera pheri wala hi aadmi hai vo.” He was clearly referring to Akshay’s hit films like Hera Pheri, Phir Hera Pheri, and Bhool Bhulaiyaa.
His old-school advice to Twinkle
The veteran actor also shared the advice he gave Twinkle after her marriage. He said, “Maine apni beti ko bhi bola hai. Maine kaha hai, ‘Dekho Tina baba…’ mai Tina bolta hoon kyunki Twinkle uska naam hai, ‘Tina baba, zara iski lagaam kheench ke rakhna lekin itni bhi nahi kheenchna ki toot jaayein.’”
(Loose translation: I told my daughter, ‘Look Tina baba, keep a gentle check on him, but don’t pull the reins so tightly that they break.’)
