Spencer Pratt is once again reminding everyone that subtlety has never been his brand. And honestly, would we even recognize him if it suddenly was?!
The former reality TV lightning rod has officially stepped into political chaos by pursuing a run for mayor of Los Angeles, and the reactions have been exactly what you’d expect: loud and divided. But if you think Spencer is shaking in his crystals over what the critics are saying, think again.

TMZ caught up with Spencer on Monday while he was doing the rounds to promote his new book The Guy You Loved to Hate: Confessions from a Reality TV Villain, and they asked the obvious question: is he nervous about running for office? Never one to miss a moment, Spencer fired back with a line that feels tailor-made for a campaign bumper sticker:
“What, are they gonna burn my house down again?”
Mic drop!
That’s one way to shut down the narrative. Spencer has already lived through the worst, and he’s leaning into it. As we’ve reported, the 42-year-old announced his mayoral ambitions on the one-year anniversary of the Pacific Palisades wildfire, which devastated more than 6,000 structures and destroyed the home he shared with Heidi Montag and their sons. That loss seemed to flip a switch in Spencer, launching him into a full-blown crusade against California politicians that gained traction online.
Not everyone is thrilled about this new chapter, though. Current LA mayor Karen Bass’ campaign strategist Douglas Herman did not mince words when weighing in on Spencer’s bid:
“It’s no shock that in advance of his imminent book release, a reality TV ‘villain’ who once staged a fake divorce to boost ratings and spent the last summer spewing post-fire misinformation and disinformation to pump up his social media following, would now announce he’s running for Mayor.”
Still, Spencer insists he’s unbothered — and claims the hate isn’t even on his radar. According to him, the only feedback he’s registering is the supportive kind:
“I only see people that are saying, ‘thank God Spencer’s running for Mayor of LA.”
Well then…
Whether this turns into a serious political movement or just another memorable Spencer moment remains to be seen, but one thing is clear: he’s got people talking, and in El Lay, that’s half the battle.
BTW, his book hits stores on Tuesday! Something tells us this is only the beginning of the spectacle.
